Introduction
As this world becomes smaller and smaller, sustainability, traceability and green practices are becoming more and more important. Keystone Cooperage has been a green company for years even before it was the popular thing to do. The following is how Keystone Cooperage plans to continue to bring high quality products to a world-wide market place now and into the future.

Sustainability
Keystone Cooperage is dedicated to sustainability for our future, as well as, future generations. Keystone Cooperage is associated with various organizations and companies that promote sustainable forest practices. One such organi-zation is the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association (PFPA). The PFPA is affiliated with Sustainable Forestry Ini-tiative (SFI), as well as several other organizations dedicated to the same cause. Keystone Cooperage purchases raw products (Timber, Logs) from companies that are members of these organizations. As an example of how well sus-tainable forestry works, the state of Pennsylvania now has more timberland than it did one hundred years ago. This can be directly accredited to proper management and sound logging practices.

Traceability
In the age of Bio-Terrorism and the need to keep accurate track of who has handled your products, where your prod-ucts have been, and when your products where produced, Keystone Cooperage helps you by keeping everything simple. Keystone Cooperage is a one hundred percent self-contained facility, that means we are the only ones re-sponsible for the purchasing of the raw products and the milling of the staves and heading. Traceability would also include, overseeing proper air-seasoning, to the production of the barrel, and finally the shipment to your winery. Keystone Cooperage products and quality are our responsibility from start to finish.

Green Practices
Keystone Cooperage and its parent company Wilson Forest Products has been a green company for seventy-five years, putting us well ahead of most companies. As the price of raw products continues to rise, Keystone Cooperage has had to find ways to off-set these rising costs. One way was to become more green. The following practices dem-onstrate how Keystone Cooperage is mindful not to waste any of the by-products from the timber used for making barrels. The bark that is taken off the logs prior to milling is used as landscape mulch. Paper companies use our chips from the milling process. Additionally, farmers welcome our sawdust for animal bedding. Recently,we in-stalled new low emission lighting to help reduce our use of electricity and its dependence on coal. And finally, the cooperage uses the oak waste material to fuel the toasting fires.
